Smile Welfare Canada respects your privacy and handles personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial law.
Information we collect
- Donors: name, contact details, mailing address and gift details needed to process donations and issue tax receipts. Card details are handled by our payment provider and never stored by us.
- Volunteers and partners: contact details, availability and interests.
- People requesting help: contact details, household information and the type of support needed.
- Website visitors: basic, anonymous usage statistics.
How we use it
We use personal information only to process donations and receipts, coordinate volunteers, deliver our programs, meet our legal and CRA record-keeping requirements and, with your consent, send updates. We never sell, rent or trade personal information.
Sensitive information
Information from people requesting help is treated as confidential, shared only with team members who need it to arrange support, and never published or shared with donors.
Email updates
We send email updates only to people who have given consent, in line with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
Retention and security
We keep records for as long as required by the Income Tax Act and our policies, and protect them with reasonable safeguards.
